Although I feel comfortable while looking for a suitable material through web and adopting it to my classes , being an online student is something totally new for me and I'm just trying to get used to everything and not to miss something and the reading text Hints for Learning On-line puts my worries into words.

Hi Vesile, I think you should not worry at all. You're doing much better than you selfevaluate yourself. This time last year (my first ever at BAW and working with technology) I did not even know what the BAW forum or the blog, or any blog was. These tools and activities remain after the course is over and you can revisit, explore and practice.

Hi everyone what you say here help me a lot to think about what I have to do if I want to improve. Thank you all. Some of the things I can do to enhance my success is not be afraid to make mistakes, be curious and PARTICIPATE!

I agree, Veronica. The amount of wonderful free online spaces that can advantage any learner has exploded lately, and there are never enough hours for me to get to them all, and learn them properly. But I find that re-visiting is a great help. Take Wordle for instance. I spent some time there and created a Wordle. Went back for a specific purpose and played with more options. Returned recently and explored every nook and cranny, including the blog, and learnt so much more about this tool. The great thing is, it was easy enough to learn fairly quickly the first time, but revisiting taught me more. I totally understand why so many people return to BAW!
One thing I am learning as an online student is to forgive myself for having a finite amount of time to devote to study. I spend hours each day working online, but there comes a time when I need to draw a line and say "enough". Being an online student is very much about balance in our lives, too, I believe. We need to build things into our online life that look after our real life selves too - from taking screen breaks and checking posture, to building networks and grasping netiquette.
I thought the reminders in Hints for Learning Online were useful for this stage of our course.

I feel overwhelmed! I already think I spend too much time on-line everyday...and when I look at the BaW site, there's almost too much to take in! I'm really looking forward to learning from everyone, but I know I need to make 'time management' a priority too. Thanks for everyone's patience!

I was really impressed when I started learning how to deal with technology due to its autonomy and collaborative process. In fact, the most fascinating experience is freedom and the on line environment can provide that. Besides this, people are not afraid of sharing what they know... We have lots of courses, tutors, material on line and so on. Of course, that many of these things are sponsored and lots of people make money on that, but the resources are simple there - in a place where anyone can see - I mean read.

I've never taught an online class but I have taken quite a few. I've also helped my kids do their High School online. Here are a few random suggestions: -Every medium excels in different ways, so don't try to make the online class like a classroom. For example, in a classroom the teacher must keep control of the class. One teacher told me that this was 80% of his job. Keeping control is not a big issue online. The big issue online is keeping the students going so that they don't fall further and further behind and then drop out. So the teacher needs to think of strategies to do this. As a student I try to pick classes with forum discussions because I must keep up with the readings in order to be able to post within the time limits. This keeps me working on the class. -The personal touch is still important. After taking paper-based distance courses, I found that my marks went up when the course was online. I think that's because the teacher got to know the students more by watching them interact in discussions. I also found that it's good to phone once or twice with a question, even if you don't think you need it, just to know the teacher better. It's also good for your marks -I loved doing my ESL teaching courses online because I got to interact with people all over the world who were out there teaching but I loved doing my practicum on campus. This is a good introduction to use for a beginning online student. It is clear and concise.....easy to read. When I go to write my own document I want to follow this same format of bullet points and clear wording.

Hi,
the facilitators are doing a great job to make the participants on track! Coming back to the question, I think I have to ask whenever I was stuck in something and read the emails posted by the participants which rise up the same worries as mine. Also familiarize myself with the technical words, terms and tools used in the course for a better achievement.
Reading, searching and peer collaboration can also make any tough work easier! Cheers, Houssnia

I thought the tips were good. I couldn’t open any of the links though. They were thing I already knew since this isn’t my first online class. The online reading would have been more beneficial had I been able to read the author’s links. This is one of the drawbacks for online material. It was good that the author said act like you would in a regular class. People often forget that. Just because you can’t see faces doesn’t mean you should act like a fool, in fact I would say that it is even more important to act appropriately, since everything you write is getting recorded and that is a permanent marker of your behavior.

Hi, everybody! Learning on-line is a very challanging experience for me! Unfortunately I have some trouble in downll0ading the tools, like Yahoo messanger. The page doesn't open at all! I try to keep in pace with all the tasks. The materials are very useful. I still do not understand what I can do with WIKI. I hope it will help me to organize the work with my students better.
