Hi, Sharon! I read the article and I found it really interesting!!! As I'm new in this field, I'll have to try out some first to get used to them. I do agree with the fact that this will help the sts a lot but this also requires a lot of extra time and effort from our part as well. Something difficult to combine sometimes, especially if you are running from one place to another.
Thanks for the interesting links!

Podcasting is recording your audio ideas and load them up on the Internet for everybody interested to listen to it. I think that this might be like a spoken blogger. Instead of writing, you can speak and have students do the same. I tried Podcasting my own things but it didn't work quite well. Audacity is the best thing I know. maybe the activities were not well focus and the tools were not at hand, I mean recording tools. Today we have software that makes it easy to record and share your podcasts. I prefer to use Itunes and listen to regular podcasts. We can listen to language learning podcasts and this might help learners get motivated to first try listening to podcasts, and then create their own with teacher's guidance. Podcasting has a lot of advantages for language learning: create your own material, both teachers and students in collaboration and share with the whole world.

Hi,
you can´t imagine how good were those reading. I did not know to deal with podcast or what it really was.
Now I understand that I can use it, produce, edit and do whatever I want in my english class.

1. Podcasting for ELT What are podcasts, why might your students benefit from listening to them, and how might you go about using and producing them?
A podcast is the combination of the terms Ipod and broadcasting. A person records material to be downloaded and listened to at anytime on an Ipod o other device that allows this function. Students can benefit from podcasts in many ways. There are a lot of authentic materials that they can listen to to improve their listening skills. They can also learn about their major/focus in English on their own time. They can also record their projects and practice speaking and making corrections later. To produce a podcast a person needs access to the internet, a sound recording device, an editing software, online storage, a weblog, and an RSS feed. All of this can be obtained for free by clicking the suggested links in the reading.

The text Podcasting for ELT is about what podcasting is and how it can be used in ELT. Podcasting, which is one of the unavoidable ways of using the Internet, is explained and the types of ELT podcasting are given by examples. Although having so many sites to check and looking for the most useful material for our students looks a bit tiresome, none of us can ignore the benefits of the Internet. Producing podcasts, sharing or downloading them definitely helps a lot in practicing the listening skill in class.

A podcast is the publishing of audio on the Internet. I have accessed some postcast online and I found them very interesting. I have never used them in class because at first I thought I could use it only online. The text helped me understand that using it isn't difficult since I can download and that it is also possible producing podcasts. I agree with Gaby, we must dedicate some time and effort to learn how to use it properly. Cya Sheila

I agree that podcasts are a great tool. I don’t produce one myself but I use them a lot to work on listening skills. A few years ago it was almost impossible to get audio material for specific purpose (tunnel boring for example) but nowadays you can find some on about any subjects, which allows having a more student centered teaching. It’s also both a synchronous and asynchronous tool. Some even come with lesson plan, script, activities, etc. (like www.breakingnewsenglish.com/ ). Once I’ve found one I think will be of some use for future classes, I subscribe to the feed and recommend it to the student, very practical indeed.

I have subscribed to the following podcasts through iTunes: BBC Global News, BBC 6 Minutes English, etc. VOA Special English.
I have neither created a podcast nor given such a task to my students. So, I think that these suggestions will be useful.

Hello all, I have always been using listening activities in my classes using either cassettes or cds (no computer room in my school), but podcasts (TEFL podcast) seems interesting and good resourse for teaching. I think with my laptop, I'll try to use it in class.

I have been podcasting for the last two years. I have a public website eslnews.org.nz. I first started this because students find it so difficult to understand TV or radio news and very few subscribed to a newspaper so they miss out on what is happening in the community or country they are living in. I research a current news item, summarise it in around 250 words using easy vocabulary and structures, then record it, speaking slowly. I try to do this every two or three days. It takes me about an hour but - and this is a big BUT - I am retired. I don't think teachers have the time to do this. Although I record only New Zealand news, I am amazed to see in the stats that people in China and USA as well as other countries are also accessing the website.
