Based on what you read in Labonte and Christian and your own experience, give a brief response to both of the following statements:
2a. The most important thing for students in online classes to learn is that _______ .
2b. The most important thing for teachers of online classes to learn is that _______

2a. The most important thing for students in online classes to learn is that they have to accept responsibility for their own learning, be organized and eager to experience the moderator role for themselves – this last aspect might lead to a certain condescendence regarding unreal expectations. 2b. The article mentions interesting intellectual, social and emotional, managerial and technological tips for teachers in order to be successful in moderating virtual classrooms. As a learner I can say that what I appreciated most from the moderators' part was: friendly atmosphere, acceptance of lurking until confident and ready to break the ice, pace adjustment to the students' needs, conversational tone, engagement of participants - I remember a memorable presentation from BAW09 by J. Finkelstein.

2a. The most important thing for students in online classes to learn is experiencing different roles, such as presenters, moderators, learners, aids, etc .
2b. The most important thing for teachers of online classes to learn is using silence wisely.
Our dear presenters, coordinators and comoderators have learnt to do this perfectly!

"Moderating Tips for Synchronous Learning Using Virtual Classroom Technologies" by Randy LaBonte, Susan Crichton, and Dane Allison clearly explains how to manage an online classroom and gives very useful tips about it. 2a. The most important thing for students in online classes to learn is to adopt themselves to different roles and instead of becoming passive learners they should be more active and a problem solver. In other words they should be more aware of what is going on and be a part of it.
2b. The most important thing for teachers of online classes to learn is I think more difficult because professional development is not enough to manage an online class. They should also have the skills of using web tools efficiently and effectively.
