This article Singh has two objectives : a) to provide a complete view of blended learning and talk about possible dimensions and ingredients of blended learning programs, and b) to provide a model to create the suitable blend. tinyurl.com/yghkrez

Building Effective Blended Learning Programs by Harvey Singh mentions about Badrul Khan’s Octagonal Framework which has eight dimensions to consider (institutional, pedagogical, technological, interface design, evaluation, management, resource support, and ethical) and it clearly explains them. The text also says that this Octagonal Framework serves as a guide to plan, develop, deliver, manage, and evaluate blended learning programs. According to Harvey Singh the concept of blended learning is rooted in the idea that learning is not just a one-time event—learning is a continuous process.

Harvey Singh presented some of the history and origins of Blended Learning. This article was based on the use of blended learning mainly for business. It didn’t focus on ELT, but was very informative. Based on his descriptions, I dare say that Baw2010 could be an example of Blending Self-Paced and Live, Collaborative Learning. I really liked his point of view on learning as “not just a one-time event—learning is a continuous process”.
